In 1957, Aunty Avril sailed aboard the MV Europa ship up the east coast of Africa, pausing briefly in the Middle East before disembarking at Brindisi, at the heel of Italy’s boot.
With her grey 1956 Vespa motor scooter, she began an ambitious 9,873-mile journey across Europe, turning heads as she breezed past intrigued onlookers.
