Sleek-looking Italian passenger liner the MV Europa (1952), a luxurious modern vessel for its time, was a vital comfortable link for passenger travel to Africa before the dominance of air travel.
Shortly after it was sold in 1976 to Ahmed Mohamed Baaboud of Jeddah and renamed Blue Sea, it sank from a fire at anchorage.
